Custodial Crew Leader

Dept/Div: Parks & Recreation        

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate manual work maintaining and cleaning facility and supervising staff, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the close supervision of the Custodial Services Coordinator. Continuous supervision is exercised over Custodians.

Essential functions

Maintains various facility areas in a safe and professional manner.

Knows, understands, and enforces rules and regulations governing the facility use and the facility emergency procedures; knows and follows proper facility opening and closing procedures.

Cleans all areas in facility including restrooms, locker rooms, gym, meeting rooms, rotunda, offices and ancillary spaces; operated various types of cleaning equipment. 

Supervises and trains custodial staff; completes daily cleaning responsibility forms for supervisor.

Sets up meeting rooms.

Maintains cleaning equipment and chemicals.

Responds to the public needs in a courteous manner and report comments/complains regarding the physical facility, staff or general public to supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of cleaning materials, supplies and equipment; general knowledge of building fixtures and equipment; some knowledge of and ability to use maintenance equipment, cleaning supplies, buffer, etc.; some knowledge of the safety hazzards associated with various cleaning compounds; ability to express ideas clearly in both oral and written formats; ability to plan, train and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required and moderate experience in custodial/cleaning work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 100 pounsd of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing, climbing or balancing and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally performed in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license.
