Recreation Manager - Aquatics

 

Reports to:  Parks and Recreation Superintendent

Supervises: Part-time and seasonal Aquatic Staff

 

Manages year round operations of THE HEIGHTS indoor aquatic center and operation of the outdoor seasonal Maplewood Family Aquatic Center which includes supervision of facilities, staff, programs, concessions and front desk seasonal operations, activities and special events for the community in a safe and professional manner.

Essential Functions

  • Hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of part-time and seasonal aquatic staff as well as seasonal concessions and front desk staff.
  • Manages quality control program for part time and seasonal staff, ensuring that all certifications are current and that policies and procedures are properly followed.
  • Coordinates and manages outsourcing of aquatic operations as needed.
  • Assists in the coordination and negotiation of contractual agreements for aquatic operations.
  • Planning and implementation of aquatic programs, lessons, and special events. Development of marketing and evaluation materials for programs.
  • Inspects all pools through visual and physical inspections for safety, aesthetic quality and chemical/temperature controls. Adjust systems to correct any inconsistencies while on duty.
  • Monitors facility operations for maintenance issues, safety awareness, cleanliness, and rental operations. Provides supervisor with divison statistical reports and recommendations.
  • Coordinates and implements a comprehensive risk management program, conducting accident/incident investigations; prepares reports; makes improvement recommendations.
  • Determines methods and courses of action to achieve departmental goals through effective financial performance. Prepares budget with projected expenditures and revenues.
  • Maintains records; prepares reports on participation, conducts program evaluations.
  • Solves grievances and or discipline cases involving patrons.
  • Overall aquatic division supervision.
  • Works cooperatively with other organizations to coordinate services.
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information in an effective and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to pool and cleaning chemicals, chemically treated water, and varied weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable related aquatics management experience of indoor/outdoor leisure pool facilities.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of aquatic and recreation facility management and programming.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and operating practices of maintaining pool chemistry, and mechanical systems and maintaining a safe environment for patrons and staff.
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies required for specialized aquatic activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, patrons, general public and vendors on a constant and consistent basis.
  • Ability to organize, supervise and evaluate facility staff operations.
  • Ability to formulate long range plans, goals and objectives for facility and program.
  • Advanced knowledge of pool mechanical systems - including pumps, filtration systems, chlorination and pH systems, pool chemical systems including computerized chemical feed systems, and automated and manual pool cleaning equipment.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree required with coursework in parks and recreation, business, or related field and considerable experience in facility management and supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications

  • Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent
  • American Red Cross Community First Aid or equivalent
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred
